Your teen will get 2 months' worth of training in 4-5 weeks, or if they can stay a bit longer, they'll get 5 month's worth of training in 2-3 months.

This is not a joke, or a mistake... our full-time students compete in 10 different styles of martial arts. Each art has it's own moves, each style has it's own affectations, each tournament sets it's on rules for scoring and competing. We're not a competition school, it's just a 'side-hustle' for the students to have fun with.  Our usual system is: the students begin training for tournament  2-3 weeks before competition. Not months - WEEKS. Even for totally different arts! Does it work? Since 2013, our small 4-6 person teams have taken 577 Gold, Silver and Bronze finishes, in five states, and international competition! Over 40 have qualified for the US Nationals and there are 8 NC State Games Gold Medalists on the mat here, right now! None of them trained for more than 2-3 weeks for any event. And most only compete a couple times per year.

So, yes, we can do this for your senior!

As of March/2026, we have two teens in college overseas that graduated from this program. While we can't reveal their travel details, in the past we've had teens go on to college in Utah, LA, NYC, Chicago, Houston, Dallas, Boston, Honolulu, Eastern Europe, Northern Europe and several to SE Asia. All of them are doing well, and a couple have graduated and returned home already. Two of those students were 14 and 16 year-old girls travelling on their own, one to Bali, and one to Jakarta - both cities are quite dangerous for females of any age, and particularly for young exchange students living with strangers. Both of them returned home safely at the end of their semesters.

At Jung Kwon Academy, we believe that martial arts training is not just about physical fitness, but also about mental and emotional growth. While a longer plan of practice is always better, it is possible to make great strides in personal improvement in short periods of time.

But you need professional instructors who not only know the material being taught - they must also know the student's abilities and weaknesses. Many studios have great teachers that know their material, but to know the student's abilities, is tougher - that takes professional, certified instructors who have been TAUGHT  how to quickly assess a person far beyond their muscle mass, flexibility or level of assertiveness.

Our accelerated pre-college program succeeds because we have senior instructors trained in psychology, military operations, law enforcement, undercover work and so on. They bond with the students on a deeper level as trust and respect builds. They actually care about the student, and the student knows it. Within a class or two, the training will start becoming more refined and detailed - tailored to the individual student. Innate abilities such as balance, eye-hand-foot coordination, reflex times, peripheral vision, sense of touch, hearing ability and more. These will all be assessed, and rolled into the training quickly. In a week or two, we will be addressing body-mind-function controls and limits that many programs never reach at all.

At the end of the discussion it comes down to one thing: you need a martial arts team that feels like it's their own kid leaving for faraway places.

ed: one of our teen college girls just survived an attempted gang kidnapping on a class trip in North Africa, just before Christmas. She followed her training, and she and her classmates were unharmed. After a struggle, they barricaded a room with furniture and held out against repeated attacks overnight. Once the gang left and the sun came up they got to the US embassy quickly and were escorted to the airport.

We maintain friendships with a number of schools all over the country. There are typically 8-10 invitations each year for our members to attend seminars in their different arts. Because of the wide reaching nature of Chung Do Kwan training, our students are comfortable attending seminars in a variety of Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Southeast Asian arts. These seminars are priced by the hosting organization.

Competition Training (FREE)

All our members are entitled to free competition training. And if you decide to compete: we will send a coaching team with you, for free.

All students above the rank of full Yellow Belt are eligible to take part in this training opportunity.

Our stated purpose for forming the academy was that we intended to turn out as many of the absolute best, most qualified martial arts instructors as we possibly could.

We've been so successful at it, that over a dozen of our black belts have been offered paid positions in other schools. When you're in class working with a black belt, just remind yourself that they stayed here for you, instead!

Chung Do Kwan is a rare art. Besides being compiled of the best parts of nearly every classical Asian art - it has another component that sets it apart.

In original Taekwondo, the civilian version is called Oh Do Kwan. Nearly all commercial studios and academies in the world, teach some form of Oh Do Kwan (even the Olympic-style schools originated in Oh Do Kwan).

Chung Do Kwan is also Taekwondo, but it is the military version. 'Combat Taekwondo' isn't just a catchy marketing gimmick. Original Chung Do Kwan TKD was used as the training system for over 170 countries' military and civil protection forces, from the 1950's until now. Even the US Army and US Marines use a version of it today.

So why did we adapt the military version for teaching general population students?

First of all, from the 1950's until the 1980's there WASN'T any other version of Taekwondo! Everyone learned it, all over the planet.

And second; when we delved into the roots of the art, we found that many fighting maneuvers and techniques had been lost, dropped or just forgotten. For two reasons:  In the early 1980's the originators of the art were desperately pushing to get TKD into the Olympics. In order to be a sport where people didn't get seriously injured every day, and points could be scored - most of the really effective stuff was dropped. And in the late 1980's martial arts schools began recruiting masses of small children that could not safely be taught the old style.

So Chung Do Kwan was dropped from the commercial venues. When we decided to open Jung Kwon Academy, there were only 2 original style schools left in North Carolina, and both were in the process of converting to sport-style.

We started as a club in 2011. IN 2016 the US Kido Black Belt Hall OF Fame inducted Master Hughes, for 'Outstanding contributions to the martial arts', in particular 'Jung kwon Martial Arts is the single sole provider of original 1940's style Chung Do Kwan in the state of North Carolina'. (emcee GrandMaster R. Dunn, HOF selection committee).
